Pre appointment checklist

What to bring and prepare:

  • Bring any images or mood boards of your desired hairstyle.

  • Write down any specific questions or concerns you have.

  • Consider any products you currently use and bring them for discussion (optional).

  • Wear comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting hair on. We recommend layers so you can remove or add them depending on the temperature, as temperature regulation is important.

  • Bring any sensory aids you may need (e.g., noise-canceling headphones, fidget items, stim toys).

  • If you prefer minimal conversation, consider bringing a book, tablet, or other quiet activity.

  • Feel free to bring a water bottle or small snack.

Important: if you have accessibility needs (e.g., seating preferences, mobility support), inform the salon ahead of time.

Questions your stylist might ask before or during your service:

  • What products do you currently use? Do you have any concerns with what you’re using?

  • What is your general hair routine? EX: wash frequency, hair tools, etc.

Typical Sensory Expectations

(Unless otherwise noted in your survey)

Noise Levels: The salon typically has background music at a noise level that still allows for the ability to hear conversations between client/stylist and hair stations.

Lights: The salon is well lit with several overhead lights. This is to help stylists see exactly what they are doing. The lighting is bright and cool toned with about 15 ceiling bulbs that can be color adjusted.

Textures: You will be sitting in a typical salon chair with a cushioned seat and back, elevated slightly off the ground. Your feet will rest on a foot pad. The floor of the salon is vinyl and there is a pad under the chair. The cape you will wear is made of Polyester material.

How long will my appointment take?

Appointments typically last between 1-2 hours, depending on the service. Color appointments and complex styling may take longer. If you need a more exact time estimate, let your stylist know when booking.

What should I do if I’m feeling overwhelmed?

Let your stylist know! You can take breaks, adjust the environment (e.g., turn down music, dim lights, or use noise-canceling headphones), or pause services if needed. We want you to feel comfortable.

Can I bring a support person?

Absolutely! You’re welcome to bring someone for emotional support during your appointment. If your support person has sensory needs or accommodations, feel free to let us know in advance.

Can I wear noise-canceling headphones or earplugs during my appointment?

Yes! Many of our clients find this helpful. If you’d like, we can also communicate with nonverbal cues or text-based updates.

What if I don’t like making small talk?

That’s completely fine! If you prefer a quieter appointment, just let your stylist know—we’re happy to work in comfortable silence or provide minimal check-ins.

Can I opt out of hair washing?

Yes! If hair washing is uncomfortable for you, we can work around it. Let us know your preference when booking or at the start of your appointment.

Do you offer quiet appointment times?

Yes! If you prefer a low-stimulation environment, we recommend booking during quieter hours. Feel free to ask which times are best when scheduling.

Do you use scented products?

We do use some scented products, but we can accommodate fragrance sensitivities upon request. If you are sensitive to certain scents, let us know in advance, and we’ll do our best to adjust.

Is your salon gender-inclusive?

Yes! We believe that hair has no gender. Our pricing is based on hair length and the skill required for your service—not on gender. You are welcome to bring in any style you love, and our stylists will work with you to achieve your vision without making comments about femininity, masculinity, or gender expectations. Everyone deserves a haircut that makes them feel like their best self.

What accessibility accommodations do you offer?

We strive to make our salon accessible for all. If you need seating accommodations, mobility support, or any other adjustments, let us know ahead of time, and we’ll be happy to assist.

Can I visit the salon before my appointment?

Yes! We offer pre-visits for clients who would like to familiarize themselves with the salon before their appointment. This can help ease any anxiety about the space, sounds, or sensory experience. During a pre-visit, you can walk around, meet your stylist, and ask any questions. If you’d like to schedule a pre-visit, just let us know when booking your appointment!
